Befriending

Do you know of someone in the community with very few family or friends?

Can they not get out and about very often?

Are they lonely?

Would they benefit from a regular visit from a volunteer befriender?

Volunteers are recruited as befrienders who will then act as “a good neighbour” by visiting someone in their home and giving them some company, sharing an activity with them or doing small amounts of shopping or other small tasks that will help the person they are befriending.

If you know of someone who would benefit from our friendly befriending service, please contact Rachael at VCS Peaks and Dales on

01298 23970 or email her at rachael@vcspd.org.

We are an NCVO Quality Accredited Volunteer Centre  Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA) is the quality mark for Volunteer Centres (and other organisations providing Volunteer Centre functions). Accreditation provides assurance that the Volunteer Centre is providing a high quality and effective service.

Services We Provide

Volunteering

If you want to volunteer in Buxton, or the Derbyshire Dales, our role is to provide advice and information about the wide range of voluntary work opportunities.

Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales will undertake a basic assessment and arrange introductions to those organisations in need of volunteer help where the interests of a particular volunteer are best suited.

Readycall in the Dales

Readycall Macmillan provide support to people aged 60 and over, living in the Derbyshire Dales.  Support is available for people who are or have been affected by cancer or other life limiting conditions and those who care for them.

Assisted by trained volunteers, we provide befriending, shopping, practical support and subsidised transport for cancer related medical appointments.

Contact Ashbourne Office 01335-348600 or Bakewell 01629-693693 for further information.

Volunteer Transport & Car Scheme

Covering over 530 square miles of some of the most rugged and remote areas of the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales, our volunteer drivers help to provide transport for older people (over 65), disabled people and people with learning difficulties which would prevent them from using public transport.

Voluntary and Community Services Peaks and Dales provide transport to take individuals and groups to medical appointments, meetings, social outings and to any mainland UK holiday destination.

Handy Van Service

The Handy Van Service operates in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales. The scheme provides free Home Fire & Security checks to ensure vulnerable people can remain in their homes while staying safe and secure.

As well as fitting safety equipment the scheme will carry out up to 2 hours of small practical tasks in the home such as putting up shelves and replacing light bulbs. The service will make 2 free visits a year.

PAT Testing

We have staff members who are fully DBS checked and trained to provide Portable Appliance Testing.

PAT testing is a requirement for businesses and we can provide this at a competitive rate.

Contact the Buxton office and ask for the Home Maintenance team for a quote.
