Volunteer Opportunity

If you would like to volunteer for our Passenger Transport Scheme here is some information you might like to know.

Firstly, will I be paid for the use of my car?

The Passenger Transport Scheme will repay you 45 pence a mile for any mileage you incur while taking passengers to their destination.

How much time will I have to give?

You can give as much or as little time as you like to volunteer for our Passenger Transport Scheme. Some people choose to do a long journey; some people only like short journeys for local areas. Whatever time you can give we would be very grateful to have it.

The only thing that we ask is that you are committed to getting the older or disabled people to their home and back in safety.

How do I become a volunteer driver?

Just contact the Volunteer Centre 01298 23970, or call into the Centre at 16 Eagle Parade next but one to Sainsburys. We will give you an application pack and you fill in a form, we request that you bring in your complete driving licence, insurance documents and MOT certificate. You will be able at this time to meet our Transport Manager or our Transport Admin Assistant and ask any other questions that you may need answering.

We will ask for two references and to complete a Criminal Record Check then as soon as they’re returned we will get you up and running.

If you would like to volunteer and you don’t have a car, we have two accessible vehicles, one a people carrier and one a minibus. With regards to the people carrier, you can drive this just with your own driving licence and with the minibus we can provide training for you to get a Minibus drivers MiDAS® certificate which is nationally recognised by all MiDAS® member organisations and your certificate would be valid for four years.

You can make a donation to the charity through Paypal.
